Dos and Don’ts on Lathe Machine

All the lathe machines need maintenance strictly according to the requirements of maintenance and material management system. Improper lubricant and loose nuts and bolts can cause excessive wear and dangerous

operating conditions. So your First requirement of maintenance is lubrication of the machine.

Make daily routine oil your lathe machine where oil holes are given. Oily protect the scraped surfaces. Headstock is filled with full of oil levels. Oil the Lead screw even when you are not using it. It’s necessary to preserve their accuracy, for worn screw lead lack precision in thread cutting. 

Lathe machine has equipped automatic oiling then check all the parts get proper oil or not. Make daily routine to check all the moving parts are lubricant.

Avoid running the carriage against the headstock and tailstock while it is the under power feed. Running the carriage against the headstock and tailstock. It causes the unnecessary strain on the lathe and jams the gear. When you engaging the longitudinal “Feed Rod” then loose the carriage clump screw and carriage will be moved by hand.

Daily clean your lathe machine.

Clean chips from the carriage, cross slide, Compound rest, Cross feed cause a serious cause of impair and inaccurate.

Never put file and other tool on the surface of the ways. So the ways surface remains the smooth. 

Never use bed or carriage as an anvil. Remember lathe is the precision machine nothing is allowed to destroy their accuracy.
